"The food was excellent and the service was even better. Hats off the cook staff. Hands down the absolute best waitress we have ever had. We frequent restaurants across the southeast and The American is at the top of our list. This young woman sets the bar for how a waitress should be."

"Great place for a mid-week date night! New Orleans pasta was wonderful...filled with sausage, chicken, meat and shrimp in a tasty sauce. Crab cakes were lump crab meat and no filler. My wife said they were delicious. We will be back!"

- Bobby M.

"Cute place with pleasant atmosphere and very friendly server. That said, I asked for the wings and she said they were out. I then asked for the soup of the day and she said they were out of that too. So I then asked for the loaded baked potato with extra on all the toppings, especially the chives, and she said no problem. The potato had probably been reheated more than once, oxydized, and lukewarm. The side of butter was hard as a rock and there were no chives. When I asked for the chives, she went to the kitchen and came back to say they haven't had chives since she started working there. The chicken piccata was very bitter. Probably a good idea to revamp the menu and remove the items described that are no longer used (chives?) and focus a bit more on the quality. One appetizer (the loaded baked potato), one hamburger w/ side of fries, one bitter chicken piccata, and two glasses of water = $70."

"We had a terrific lunch here. Had heard this place was good, and it delivered. The goat cheese salad was delicious (will start making this at home). All of the wood-grilled entrees were excellent, smoky, tasty and moist. A little weird that sodas came in the can. Did not have room for dessert but they sounded good. Saw lots of locals and repeat customers enjoying lunch."

"As we were pulling into this town, we were reading the reviews and decided to try The American restaurant in downtown Bainbridge. We were able to have a parking place in front of the restaurant. Upon entering, we were immediately seated. Our waitress, Sarah D, did an excellent job of serving us. She was friendly and professional. Our food and drinks were delicious! From the salad to the entrees, we could not have been more pleased with our food. If we lived close by, we would come here every week."

"The American has been my go to when I am in town for business. Food and service have always been great. Last week, my crab cakes were cold and they were out of a few items. Not a big deal...everyone has a bad day. Today, crab cakes were great. However, they were out of 2 entres and bacon. Something has obviously changed. Hope it gets back to the way it used to be."
